10 Most Mysterious and Forbidden Places on Earth


The world is full of strange and mysterious places. There are plenty of unsolved mysteries and decaying treasures hidden in the world. We’ve all heard of Bermuda triangle, but that’s not the only unsolved mystery the world holds. There are many other places that hold unanswered questions for seekers to probe.

  1. 1 Mysterious Sunken Yacht, Antarctica

    This scary looking yacht is called Mar Sem Fim. It belonged to a Brazilian filming crew that came to Antarctica to shoot a documentary. However, things didn't go as planned for them and the crew had to abandon the ship because of extreme weather conditions. Water froze all over the yacht causing these visuals to be mysterious.

  2. 2 Underwater Lion City in Shicheng, China

    This Forbidden city lies beneath the surface of water. It is believed to be 1341 years old. Schicheng means Lion City and it is located in the East of China. The archaeological site got submerged under water when the Xin'an River Power Station was built in 1959. The condition of the Lion City is still good because the water protects it from environmental erosion.

  3. 3 Abandoned Military Hospital in Beelitz, Germany

    This mysterious picture displays the current site of Beelitz-Heilstätten hospital in Germany. It was part of a large medical complex built in the late 1800s by the German army. Adolf Hitler also received treatment here for his wounded leg in WWI at the Battle of Somme.

  4. 4 Ghost Island, Japan


    Hashima island is famous for multiple names all over Japan. Some call it the Ghost Island while others refer to it as Battelship Island. People lived on this island until early 1900s because it gave easy access to underwater coal mines located nearby. However, as Japan's power production switched to sources other than coal, the area was left isolated as the workers departed.

  5. 5 The Diamond Heaven in Kolmanskop, Namibia

    Kolmanskop was a small, unfamous area of Namibia until explorers found out that the area has diamonds in its vicinity. Germans came here for the diamonds in the early 1900s until the WWI ended. The town was completely abandoned by people after the diamond field showed signs of saturation.


  6. 6 The Maunsell Sea Forts, England

    The British Navy created these sea forts to better align their defenses against the German attacks during the WWII. These were constructed near river Thames and Mersey. After the war ended, they have seen multiple new residents, which included pirate radio operators.

  7. 7 The Radioactive Ghost Town of Pripyat, Ukraine

    Pripyat was amongst the first nuclear cities of the world. It was created in 1970 in Ukraine near the boundary of Belarus. The inhabitants were people that worked at the power plant located in the area. After the 1986 Chenobyl Disaster, which saw the power plant burn to ashes, the area was evacuated, turning Pripyat into a radioactive ghost town.

  8. 8 Nara Dreamland, Japan

    This park was the Japanese version of Disneyland. It was launched in 1961. Most of the rides became outdated leading to lack of revenue, which caused the park to close down in 2006. It is now abandoned and nobody but security patrol visits the area.

  9. 9 Michigan Central Station in Detroit, U.S.A.

    The Michigan Central Station was the latest transportation junction back in 1913. However, it had multiple planning and design issues leading to its end in 1988. The government is yet to give a verdict on the building's fate.

  10. 10 Abandoned Submarine Base in Balaklava, Ukraine

    This fishy looking submarine dock was part of a top-secret operational site in Balaklava more than 2 decades ago. The site was considered to be one of the top intel providers in all of Soviet Union.
